On an elevated site, this home is all about enjoying the sun and views — from the inside as well as from expansive decks. Skylights illuminate the kitchen, while sliding doors and wide picture windows in the open-plan living-dining zone offer vistas of the Tasman Bay estuary in one direction, and towards the city in another. At night the outlook of the city-scape is a sea of twinkling lights. This 243sqm house clad in silver vertical shiplap cedar and plaster is much more than its views, however. That’s clear once you tear yourself away from the outlook and focus on the craftsmanship. The living area, with its smart monochrome kitchen, winds around the corner to a lounge with a fireplace and cavity sliders for cosy nights in. The house is warm, too, thanks to the fire, underfloor heating in the bathrooms and a ducted heat-pump system.
